Donkeys Now Wi-Fi Hotspots in Biblical Tourist Park

Although the headline might sound like it’s coming straight from the popular satire news company, The Onion, this is a totally legitimate situation. A tourist attraction in Israel has started equipping its donkeys with wireless routers. Since visitors to the park ride the donkeys and dress in traditional biblical robes, many of them enjoy taking photos throughout their time there. Now they can update their Facebook or email photos immediately to loved ones.

Kfar Kedem historical park is located in northern Israel and they have the donkeys wearing the routers around their necks right now. The manager of this biblical park, Menachem Goldberg, is pleased with their new idea and feels that it helps them bring a historic site into the modern world. “You take some pictures, you want to change your picture on Facebook – you can do it,” he said.

While it seems like a good idea, some may find it offensive that people are immersing themselves in their Smartphones rather than the beauty of the historical park. If you can’t spend a few hours without updating your Facebook status, should people really be catering to that? Well, for some people, this new feature of having a wi-fi hotspot on the donkey they are riding can be very helpful for business purposes. If you are on vacation, but still have to keep up with your business emails moment-by-moment, this seems like a great tool. However, if people are simply using it for social networking, maybe that could wait until they finished actually enjoying their ride through this beautiful historic part? I suppose it could go either way.

What do you think? Are wi-fi hotspots a good idea in this situation? Or is it going a little too far? Comment below and share your thoughts.
