Using Pinterest for Philanthropy

Pinterest is a social media site that has gained a great deal of attention in the past year. They have grown and prospered much more quickly than most social networking sites and have a very simple platform to work with. The beauty brand Elizabeth Arden is using the site’s popularity to launch a campaign called “Pin It to Give It.” This philanthropic effort will help cancer patients through a group called Look Good, Feel Better. This group is dedicated to giving beauty care to cancer patients so that they can continue to feel beautiful throughout difficult chemotherapy treatment.

Elizabeth Arden hopes to donate over 10,000 products. The plan is to donate one eyeliner each time someone repins something from their board using the hashtag #PinItToGiveIt.

As reported by Mashable, vice president of global public relations for Elizabeth Arden, Francine Gringas, had this to say: “Our Pin It to Give It campaign is a new, innovative way to motivate and inspire women to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with cancer… The role that cosmetics play in the lives of women affected by cancer is really medicine for the soul. Color is critical and Pinterest gives users the ability to share colorful imagery, making it a natural fit for our Pin It To Give It program.”

The campaign runs about a month, from June 27 through July 25, so get out there and start re-pinning for a good cause!
